It would be great if the Dock preview automatically dismissed itself as soon as the app icon is clicked or the app becomes active.

Right now, clicking the Dock already has some options for minimizing the current window, and adding this feature would make things pretty complicated.
To clarify, I do not mean physically clicking the Dock icon. I will show an example in the video below.
I’ll think about the UX to see if anything feels off.
