When there's something odd in the layout, it can be really hard to describe exactly how it's messed up. Could you add a debug current view sort of command, something that dumps out the tree, along witht he sizing constraints implied at each level etc.
I feel that something like this, that has a user readable component (assuming that a big json block might be hard to visually parse) would make it easier to report issues.
