Niri / Paneru style window management?

Thank you for the great product. This is the most robust tiling window manager i’ve tried so far. I’m buying even just for the nice cmd+tab implementation.

One small issue is that I need to constantly switch to different external monitor set up (home and work), and the layout constantly get messed up when i do so — tangrid is already much more robust than others. But i wander if it is possible to support the Niri / Paneru style scrolling window management. It’s kind of similar to the tabbed style, but since window are not resized according to screen size, it would be more robust to monitor setup switching.

Currently when I switch external monitors, the tabbed grouping part may sometimes get ungrouped and turn into a vertical or horizontal stacking, leading to tiny window slices.

Thank you!

It's in the roadmap

Thanks a lot for the support! Niri style layout is on the roadmap.

For the layout getting messed up when switching monitor setups, could you share screenshots of the layout before and after the switch if possible? That would help me reproduce it and narrow down the issue much faster.

It's awesome to hear! Looking forward to it!

Sorry I cannot share screenshot as this is on corp laptop. I can describe the common situations: The most common setup I have is just three windows: Chrome left, and then wezterm + Obsidian on the right, tab grouped. When I switch display -- usually that means the computer goes to sleep, and wake up with a different monitor setup (could be monitor 1 -> monitor 2, or monitor 1 -> built-in monitor), the chrome browser would still be on the left, and the other two window may be floating, or overlapping each other, or stacked vertically. A trick I found is that if I start dragging to resize one of the window, it will trigger tangrid to actively recalculate the window state and manage them. But the tab grouping state were usually gone. I would end up with three window split horizontally, or one window on the left, two windows on the right vertically stacking (splitting).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into it.
