Droppable targets to open in specific sections

GuyOP

I'd love some droppable targets near the borders of the display to move a window into a specific layout.

Something like this:

 ┌───────────────────┐         ┌─────────┬────────┐
 │        A          │         │    A    │        │
 │                   │         │         │        │
 ├───────────────────X   ->    ├─────────┤   C    │
 │        B          │         │    B    │        │
 │                   │         │         │        │
 └───────────────────┘         └─────────┴────────┘

Where if I drag a window to X and release, it opens in a zone C. Right now it's actually a real pain to get to this arrangement, there's no easy way to add a peer to the A&B container in the layout tree - though if there is, then that would likely do what I want as well.

I see what you need. But it's more complicated than that, layouts can vary endlessly. For example, how would the ABC layout on the right adapt to this feature, and can top and bottom even support it? Also, what about vertical monitors? I think we need a simple and reliable approach to make this work.

I'll admit that I'm more interested in the result than the drop target bit, another way to think about it, is say I start with the picture on the right and then make C float, how do I easily get back to that layout. Then make A and B stacks, which gets rid of several of the easy ways to do it.

Just arbitrarily adding a new root and splitting it, likely triggers all sorts of min size related issues - but that's what I end out using stacks for.
