Workspaces not populating.

Sometimes the workspaces on the left had side do not populate. Generally they are fine, but sometimes I put my mouse to the left and it doesn't work. If I then open the app again (even though its already open), it works... By this I mean I don't quite the app.. I just double click the app again in finder.
