Hi,
I recently noticed that sometimes, tangrid is not working at all with windows management, wether I set it to snap assist or auto flow.
I do not know why or what could affect it.
It often happen after an update.
I can stop the app multiple time and restart it. Nothing changes.
I think I have this random issue since 1.6.2.
window management not working

Update with diagnostic logs (zip attached)
Setup: MacBook Pro M4, single LG ULTRAGEAR+ (3440x1440), macOS 27.0
I dug through the logs (1.6.4 → 1.6.6) and the issue seems to be the startup window inventory barrier, not a permission or app conflict. Accessibility events are received fine (focus, move, close, space changes), but window management never activates.
On every launch, waitForInitialWindowInventoryLoaded() starts, but the "barrier completed" line + scheduleStrategyActivation ("Window strategy updater activated") only appear after a random delay, or never:
- 1.6.4, Sep 11 16:05 → never completed (no snap until Sep 14)
- 1.6.5, Sep 14 08:03 (right after update) → 37 min
- 1.6.5, Sep 16 14:05 → 36 min
- 1.6.5, Sep 16 15:32 → 3 hours
- 1.6.5, Sep 16/17/20 (several launches) → under 2 s, works fine
- 1.6.6, Sep 24 → 7 launches, never completed, nothing works in any mode
While the barrier is pending, windows are tracked but no snap/HUD/layout ever triggers. This explains the "random" behavior I've had since ~1.6.2/1.6.3, often right after an auto-update restart.
It doesn't look like a specific app blocks it: on 1.6.6 I relaunched with everything closed (only menu bar apps running: Atoll, AlDente, BetterDisplay, Wave Link, CloudMounter, Logi Options+), and it still never completed. The exact same set of background apps was running on successful 1.6.5 launches.
Side notes:
asyncLoadUntilAppearretries a lot for Zen Browser (840 retries, up to try 8) and VS Code (281, up to try 9), might be an aggravating factor on 1.6.5.- Tangrid often launches 2–3 times within seconds (e.g. Sep 24 09:43:32 / 09:43:45 / 09:44:08).
Suggestion: a timeout/fallback on the inventory barrier so window management activates even if one app never answers.

I think I found a suspect, quitting Atoll and launching Tangrid again make it work. So there is a conflict in some way preventing your engin to start when atoll is already running.

Let me test how it runs with Atoll.

Initial investigation points to Atoll forking processes like crazy every 0.2s which keeps all Tangrid window states stuck in the preparing to refresh stage.

Indeed, It's not a good thing, I stopped using it for now. Btw, i often have issue with it reaching high memory usage and itself, asking me to reload the app through a modal. If you have any suggestion for a dynamic island alternative for media player or even a native macos media player widget. ;D

But that is indeed an issue, and Tangrid should work properly in that case too. v1.6.7 fixed this.
